When I was in pre-school, my definition of “Astronaut” is someone who travels to the moon. I remember I always answer “I want to be an Astronaut” when someone asked me what I want to be when I grew up. I thought it was the coolest thing that time, since everyone would want to be either a teacher or a doctor. As I grew “smarter”, I found out that that an Astronaut is someone who literally travel to the outer space…well it’s not really isolated in the moon’s land area, but it’s beyond it.
Then the Russians call their space travelers Cosmonauts and the Chinese have Taikonauts. So I wonder, what will be a first Filipino space traveller will be called? “Kalawakanaut”, “Talanaut” or “Pinaut”? Well, we’ll never know until the first Filipino is chosen by AASA to be trained and be sent to the outer space…for real! Axe Apollo Space Academy is now on search for the next Filipino to travel the space, and anybody who’s 18 years and above can sign up; and I mean anybody. Come to think of it, if a monkey and a dog was able to travel beyond the Earth’s atmosphere, why not a Filipino? As per Gem Laforteza, brand manager for Axe Philippines, “The program we’ve launched is an opportunity for our great nation to join the global community in taking the next big leap. We’re very excited to meet the first Pinoy astronaut. It could be anyone…”
So if you plan to make this 2013 a year for you to travel, consider grabbing the chance to be part of the search and maybe, just maybe, this is your year to see the moon so close than what you can for now. The thing is, one have to undergo series of challenges, pass it all and be chosen to be sent in Orlando, Florida, where the Axe Apollo Global Space Camp training site is located. Only 2 of almost more than 10,000 (and numbers are growing) will be chosen to experience this once in a lifetime event.
The search is still on, and puhlease! don’t get overwhelmed by the training and other tough process one have to go through to make it. It’s a travel to the outer space and not a free vacation in Paris; so one should really prove his or herself to be chosen. Just visit axeapollo.com and learn more about this awesome competition. Just give it a shot; the first Filipino space traveler could be YOU!
